She raised her eyebrows, trying to come of as very offended at that remark, but she couldn't completely hide her smile. "That's...I am not a seer," she said, and hit him with her menu.

She sighed. "You're older," she said, with a grin. "You'll be thirty before I ammmm..." She said it in a sing-songy voice - and for some reason, she pictured them in her mind together at that birthday.

"Older and wiser," he answered, still grinning. "I'll be much older than you are... for a very long time."

The banter between them was comfortable and fun- loving, almost. He liked it- he hadn't been able to converse with someone this easily since... since... a very long time.

She smirked. "But I get to be younger," she said. "Much younger and yet still your equal - I think that's pretty good," she said.

Just then, the waiter arrived with their food, and she shook her head at Tree. "I totally did not see that coming."

"You didn't see that coming? You're such a failure, Glenn," Tree teased, taking a small bite of his steak. "And my equal? Never."

He softened his voice, not looking at her. "You will always be far superior, Glenn."

Glenn sighed. "I know, I know, I suck," she said, with an apologetic laugh. "And it's a cute song, a lullaby my mom knows."

Then, she just blushed. "Superior? You have got to be kidding you, there's no way I'm superior to anyone..."

"Glenn, you could never understand how wonderful you are," Tree said simply and truthfully, resuming eating. "That would explain it," he continued, referring to the song. "I don't know any lullabies or any of those sorts of things.'

She blushed even more. Then, choosing to ignore the 'wonderful' comment, she said, over bites of food,

"No lullabies? That's ridiculous! What'll you do when you have kids of your own someday, Tree?"

Tree laughed. "Well, I just... where do you really learn lullabies, anyway? I mean..."

He screwed up his face in thought and was coming quite blank. Perhaps he could find a book of them or something?

"Parents?" she said, quietly. "Grand-parents... family members? Friends. I could teach you some, maybe..." She smiled at him. "I mean...I guess you could learn them anywhere."

She just shook her head. "I can't picture you singing, Tree..."

He smiled. "I sing all of the time. Just not in front of people. I like myself too much to permit that embarrassment."

He started to laugh. "I wouldn't have been able to picture you singing, either..."

...until you saw her as Peter Pan on SNL! "It's not embarrassing to sing!" she said, with a laugh. "Come on, I know you can do it - anything, just pick a song and sing it - because your voice is your best instrument..."

She wasn't even paying attention to what she was saying, she was just having fun. "Hello lamppost, whatcha knowin? I've come to watch your flowers growin'..." She laughed.

"Ain't you got no rhymes for me?" he sang very softly, blushing deeply and looking away.

He had never, ever sung in front of anyone before. Or, at least, not in a very, very long time.

Glenn smiled. "There you go," she said encouragingly. "I told you it wasn't hard - and how can I get you to do that more often?"

She laughed a little, and added, "You do have a good voice, Tree..."

He blushed even more deeply and shrugged. "I dunno why. Thank you, though."

He cleared his throat and took a deep drink from his glass, trying to assuage the embarrassment of singing in public.

They finished their dinner more in silence than conversation, but it was a comfortable silence that neither of them had too much of an issue with.

Finally, they got up and paid the check, and returned home.
